Heal Your World by Playing the Piano

It's a bit crazy "out there" isn't it...

There seems to be these times throughout history where the big picture of our world is challenged and changed as we continue to grow and 'become' on this planet together.

It's important in challenging times either in the outside world or in our own personal world, to know what tools we have at our disposal to overcome chaos, provide a grounding stability for ourselves to weather the storm so to say, and to somehow on top of all of that, put something positive out "there" in the hopes that we can create a small but permanent change that brings peace and connection.

Not only does music "soothe the savage beast" as we hear so often, it brings a real sense of mastery over outside influences that may shake our sense of security and ability to live productively and achieve our dreams.

If you look around you and wonder what you can do to keep the positive reigning in your life and counteract the negative you may see in your environment...all you need to do is...

Go Play Your Piano. :)

Now, this isn't really about going to your piano to do all those incredibly detailed practice sessions...this is going to sit down and play what you enjoy playing. It's more about playing those pieces and even exercises if you like them...that you've already worked on and know, so you can now just play music.

Don't take this to mean "don't practice"... but for this purpose that we're talking about here, it's about letting go and creating and making music. This is actually where all your hard practicing will pay off because you'll be able to play several pieces like this the more you grow in your piano studies!

When you sit down and just play music that you love...what happens inside of you? While the answer will be a bit different for everyone, studies have shown some common results in all musicians:

  • better/more relaxation
  • a sense of better "well-being"
  • more happiness
  • less depression and anxiety
  • a sense of groundedness
  • greater self confidence
  • positive physiological benefits such as reduced heart rate, an increase in endorphins, lower blood pressure, enhanced immunity, etc

In fact, if you think about it...there's not a single negative result from playing the piano...unless of course you somehow get an injury.

Now, let's take this outside of your own individual world, and see how this would have a positive effect on the negative energy that you may encounter.

Every single benefit that you personally receive from playing your piano, has a very direct affect on your immediate environment and then on the outside world.

If you are happier, more peaceful and calm, you're going to be able to bring that feeling into your own family, workplace, school...anywhere that you go. Simply by being there, you bring all of that goodness that you've built up in yourself from playing the piano to that environment.

You see, when you walk into a public place, everything that you are feeling you bring there with you. If you're angry, sad, feeling anxious or whatever it may be, you "put that out there" as soon as you walk into that space. In essence, you bring whatever you are feeling and experiencing inside you wherever you go.

You know that saying..."Wherever you go, there you are?" That's what this is.

So imagine if you've filled yourself up with playing some great piano music and you walk into a store where there's a tense situation occurring. You already bring good things to that situation just be being there (and being in a good emotional state), but then you might also end up having the right words to diffuse the situation.

If you're angry and agitated when you walk into a situation like this, you might just end up yelling at them to shut up, or start complaining about it to someone without having a solution.

So already you've had a positive impact in your local community through this example...(see if you can think of some specific to you and your own experiences).

Well now, imagine that going out further through those people that you helped calm down. Let's say that they go home and take that good energy that you gave them, and diffuse another potentially explosive situation from happening.

It doesn't stop there either... and this is the amazing part.

This act of having yourself in a place of - being able to respond to your world positively in the face of negativity - will reach out far enough to literally plant that seed of "goodness" everywhere. It doesn't stay confined to just your world at home, or in your community or state...it reaches out to the whole world through invisible branches and limbs that just keep growing!

Every plant has its start at the root. Here, the root is you and your piano. You get the benefits first. :) Build yourself up by staying committed to good steady practicing and then remember to take time to enjoy your own talent and gift; and hard practicing...so you can experience that amazing world that piano takes us into, and creates within us as a living being.

The more you enjoy your own piano playing and music and keep yourself "filled up", the  more good things you're going to put into yours and my world. It's possibly the greatest tool we have to stay focused on the important things when everything around us seems to be spinning in some crazy direction! I'm going to do the same so I can return all that positive energy that you're going to be sending my way!
