This month I have scheduled several special LiveStream Piano classes that teach you how to play different patriotic songs in celebration of our upcoming Independence Day on July 4th.

Our next one, on June 10th, will teach you how to play the song “Born in the USA”, by Bruce Springsteen.

Most people know who "The Boss" is, especially if you’re a little older.

Born in 1949, Bruce Springsteen grew up in New Jersey - the son of a bus driver, his Dad, and an Italian legal secretary, his Mom.

He started playing the guitar at age 7…and guess who his first big influences were?
  • Elvis Pressley
  • Frank Sinatra
  • The Beatles

He began playing for smaller local audiences as a boy using an $18.00 guitar that his Mom bought for him.

In the mid-60’s, with a better guitar and more experience, Springsteen started his formal music career when he was assigned the lead singer role for The Castiles.
He acquired his nickname "The Boss" during the late 60's, when he was performing with another band called "Earth". Springsteen was responsible for scheduling the performances and handling all of the finances for each gig.

Throughout the 70's, his career solidified as he developed a unique sound and style in the rock world that critics described as Americana and Jersey Shore. It was during this time that his most successful band, "Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band" was formed and became famous.

During the 80's, Springsteen began working on an acoustic recording at his home studio. These songs were first recorded on a cassette tape! He ended up releasing these songs himself, instead of recording them with the E Street Band, and this album ended up becoming one of his most famous and loved ones of all time.
In 1984, Springsteen produced one of his most beloved and well known albums and tunes, "Born in The USA". Selling over 30 million copies worldwide and over 15 million copies in the U.S.A, this album had 7 singles hit every Top Ten list across the nation.

He subsequently took this album on tour with the E Street Band and it became part of the political climate and discussion of the day, concerning the Vietnam War and how vets were treated during active duty and upon returning home.

The Summer of 1985 was the highlight period of Springsteen's career: cementing his permanent place in Rock n Roll's history.

He continues to perform and tour today. In fact, you can check out his touring schedule right here.

Enjoy a performance of "Born in The USA" by the Boss, and remember to join us for the LiveStream on Friday June 10 at 8:00 p.m. where you will learn how to play this piece on the piano...just in time for July 4th!
